Assehnoun: ‘In the end I was lucky to take that free ball’

FOOTBALL – “Hard work pays off”, said Jasin-Amin Assehnoun last night after the 2-0 win against Jong FC Utrecht and his nice goal in the first half. He shot a free ball of at least 25 meters behind goalkeeper Nijhuis with extreme precision.

“I train a lot on this. Almost after every training I try to perfect my free ball and then it’s great that I can show it in a match. In the end I was lucky to take the ball. Araujo was also interested in that free ball, but still left it to me,” said the Finn.

“It was a tactical choice of the trainer and I accept that”

With his goal, Assehnoun may have also shown that he was wrongly not in the starting lineup against Jong PSV last Monday, but according to the wing player, that was not the case at all. “It was a tactical choice of the trainer and I accepted that. Moreover, we are now a few days further and I prefer to look forward than back.”

Assehnoun is looking forward to next Monday’s game against FC Volendam. “We did well against them earlier this season, in the cup and in the competition. I hope we can reach that level again and that we will make it a great evening for our audience.”
