‘Pacifiction’ wins the Best Cinematography award at the French contest

The movie ‘As bestas’, by Rodrigo Sorogoyen, has won the César Award for Best Foreign Filmwhile the film ‘Pacifiction’, by the Catalan director Albert Serra, has also won this award in the category of Best Photographyas announced by the French Academy of Arts this Friday.

After sweeping the Goyas in Seville with nine awards, Sorogoyen has once again taken the podium, this time at the Olympia theater in Paris, to receive the prize awarded by the French Academy to ‘As bestas’, which was nominated precisely for this single category. “Thank you for letting us be a small part of French cinema”, said the Spanish director upon receiving the award. ‘As bestas’ competed alongside the Belgian Close (Lukas Dhont), the Swedish Boy from Heaven (Tarik Saleh), the Polish EO (Jerzy Skolimowski) and the also Swedish Triangle of Sadness (Ruben Östlund).

For its part, ‘Pacifiction’ was nominated for nine categories at the 2023 César Awards. The film, which won three Gaudí Awards, received nominations in the categories of film, direction, actor (Benoît Magimel), photography, sound, original music, visual effects, sets and costumes. Finally, it has been Artur Tort who has won the César award for best photography. “Thanks to Albert for everything we have done and experienced, and for everything we still have to do,” said the director of photography from Vic (Barcelona) when collecting the award.
