Artist’s Van Gogh statue is disappointed by theft: ‘Damage would be a shame’

The statue was most likely stolen as a New Year’s Eve stunt. “We are not very happy with that. It is of course a fun action, but less fun for us,” says Bügel. His team spent more than a month creating the statue.

Bügel is concerned about the statue because the concrete base and the steel pin, which ensure that the statue does not fall, are still in place: “I wonder how they do that. If the statue is not anchored properly or not is properly secured, then it will fall.”

That will probably lead to damage: “It is a strong statue. It will not just break, but it can be damaged. That would be a huge shame,” says Bügel. “But we don’t immediately assume the worst. These types of associations usually have experts in-house. They are used to something.”
