The English clubs FC Arsenal and Aston Villa easily reached the quarter -finals of the Champions League.
After the 7-1 first leg victory at PSV Eindhoven, FC Arsenal did not have such an easy game this time, but still loved with a 2: 2 (2: 1). Villa gave FC Bruges 3-0 (0: 0) in the round of 16 second leg, little chance, the first leg had already won the favorite 3-1. The club meets Paris Saint-Germain in the quarterfinals.
Without the German international Kai Havertz, which was injured on the thigh, who chased the game wrapped in a thick winter jacket on the stands, FC Arsenal against PSV was more difficult this time.
Oleksander Sintschenko (6th minute) and Declan Rice (37th) scored the Arsenal goals, for Eindhoven the former Bundesliga professional Ivan Perisic (18th) and Couhaib Driouech (70.). In the round of the last eight (8th/9th and 15th of April), either defending champion Real Madrid or Atlético Madrid is waiting for the Londoners.
Brügges planned catch -up was made significantly more difficult after a quarter of an hour when Kyriani Sabbe was shown the red card because of an emergency brake by the German referee Daniel Siebert. Villa skilfully played out his majority in the second half and, thanks to the goals of Marco Asensio (50th/61st) and ex-Dortmund Ian Maatsen (57.), won.
