The Arko Dorpstheater gets naked for the play ‘Calendar Girls’. In the piece, a women’s association decides to make a nude calendar because it sells much better than a calendar with churches. “It’s all not to be underestimated. It involved a real photo shoot and you also have to take off your clothes on stage. It’s not so easy to do that in front of a full room,” says Evelyne Debusschere.
The proceeds from the performance and the calendar will go to Kom op Tegen Kanker. “Everyone has come into contact with the disease from far or near, so you can appeal to a wide audience with this piece,” says Joke Kellens.
Kris Delva, director of Arko Dorpstheater, admits that some persuasion techniques had to be applied. “We have succeeded and we see that it is working. 1,800 tickets have currently been sold, so we are over the moon.”
The women of the Arko Dorpstheater will perform ‘Calendar Girls’ six more times in Ardooie, next Wednesday and then also at the end of November and the beginning of December.
