Arjen Lubach still remarkably often goes back to fragments of the public broadcaster now that he is at RTL 4. Why is that? “Such an excerpt costs around 950 euros on average, excluding the costs.”

It is a bit striking: now that Arjen Lubach is sitting at RTL 4, he can draw free from the archive of, for example, the RTL News, but in his Lubach program we still see fragments from the NOS Journal all the time. Why is that anyway? TV authority Tina Nijkamp wonders in her podcast Tina’s TV UPDATE.

950 euros

Tina does have an idea where this is. “Why does Lubach use so many fragments from the public broadcaster? That costs a lot of money? Yes, that certainly costs a lot of money. Such a fragment costs around 950 euros on average and then you have a Handling’s fairy. That will be in the papers,” she says.

She continues: “Of course Lubach has received a big budget from RTL 4 to unpack well with his show, so he can pay it, but I think he does it especially – not because he can’t get it all at RTL News – for his credibility.”

“He’s scared”

What would be unbelievable about using RTL fragments? Tina: “I think that if he is going to take everything from RTL News, he is afraid that the public-broadcot viewer who is also going to RTL 4 at ten o’clock, that he then loses it, that he thinks of: they think I think such a commercial rakker now that I only use RTL fragments.”

“I think he thinks: if I use a lot of heads from the NOS and also online heads of the NOS, then it is good for my credibility. I think it will come because of that. It is a speculation, but I think he does it to prevent the public-broadcot viewer who will drop out to RTL 4 at ten o’clock.”

Too lazy and too rich

And Arjen really needs that credibility, especially now that he is so under fire from his critics. Although he does not have to worry about his contract for the time being: he is still running and is lucrative.

Or, as Arjen said yesterday in his satirical TV show: “There are hundreds of thousands of people in the Netherlands, especially from Eastern Europe, who do the work that we are too lazy or too rich in the Netherlands. Or in my case: too lazy and too rich.”
