Arie Boomsma is criticized by the Keuringsdienst star: ‘This is deadly’

Teun van de Keuken, known for the Keuringsdienst van Waarde programme, thinks it would be unwise for people to follow Arie Boomsma’s example. “It’s deadly!”

Arie Boomsma announced a week and a half ago that he now puts tape on his mouth when he goes to sleep. For example, he forces himself to breathe through the nose at night instead of through the mouth. According to the fitness guru, that is a lot healthier. He invites other people to follow his example.

“Then you’re dead!”

What a madness, thinks NPO star Gijs Groenteman. He just thinks it’s a weird sight. “Arie Boomsma now tapes his mouth shut to breathe through his nose. He does all kinds of exercises and then he goes to sleep and then he puts a piece of tape on his mouth. That looks pretty creepy,” he says Teun & Gijs Tell Everything.

Teun van de Keuken, presenter of Keuringsdienst van Waarde, responds to this and points out that sealing your mouth while you sleep is life-threatening. “So it could be that you suddenly get a stuffy nose in the middle of the night and then you’re just dead.”

‘Beyond with Arie’

Gijs fears the same. “Yeah, then you just suffocate. Then it’s over with Arie.”

Teun: “Yes, because according to him it is very unhealthy to breathe through the mouth. (…) It’s actually healthier until it kills you.”

On the defensive

Arie defended his new adhesive tape hobby last week in RTL Boulevard. “There are a few things that tape helps with. You don’t get such a dry mouth anymore, so it’s much better for cavities, much better for your teeth. You no longer snore and you also wake up much fresher,” he said in the program.

The dumbbell pastor does not wear his adhesive tapes when he makes love in bed. “Of course I don’t put it on when ‘we’ go to bed. At a certain point you go to sleep yourself, then it lies next to my bed and then it goes on.”

Son at bed

It is sometimes difficult if your children are unexpectedly at bed, says Arie. “It sometimes happens that my son or daughter wakes up in the night, they are at bed and I am still sitting with that thing.”
