Since mid-May, infections with the rare monkeypox virus have been appearing in Europe and America. What is of great concern is that the virus is now spreading from person to person outside Africa. That has never been seen before. In addition, the rare disease is spreading like an oil slick. Barely six days (!) after the first report from the United Kingdom to the World Health Organization (WHO), six western countries have already been affected with a total of 32 confirmed cases and a further 69 suspected cases.
