In Coevorden, fire broke out in a house above a shop on the Friesestraat in the center of the city.
The fire brigade has scaled up to a very large fire and is present with several cars to extinguish the fire. Photos show that the flames are coming from the roof and that there was a lot of smoke in the shopping street. Many people have come out of their homes to watch.
A spokesman says there are no more people in the building. Surrounding buildings are being evacuated. That is why the fire service has also scaled up to the so-called GRIP1 status. “Then there will be more coordination between emergency services and we could use some extra hands when evacuating.” Residents of evacuated houses are taken care of at a catering facility, the Security Region said.
The spokesman said no one was injured. Earlier we reported that one person was injured, but the Security Region is not aware of this.
