For a long time, the song “You’ll Never Walk Alone” was an institution in the stands before Eintracht Braunschweig games. Now there is a change.

At the start of the second half of the 2nd Bundesliga, it will be unusual for Eintracht Braunschweig fans in the stadium. At the home game against FC Schalke 04 on Saturday (kick-off: 1 p.m.), the anthem “It should ignite us in games and sports” will be played after the team lineup has been announced.

In previous years, the classic “You’ll Never Walk Alone” was usually played at this time – shortly before the game kicked off – to which the fans raised their blue and yellow club scarves. But that is now over, as the club announced on Friday.

The song for which “You’ll Never Walk Alone” has to give way is a reconstructed variant of the first club anthem from the 1899/1900 season. BTSV founding member Karl Stansch once wrote this. Since the home game against Hamburger SV on November 8, 2024, the newly released version has been integrated into the ceremony before the game kicks off in the Eintracht Stadium. Read more about this here.

The club says they have received extensive feedback on the anthem in the past few weeks. After consulting with the ultra scene, they are still convinced that the song expresses “a deep connection to Eintracht and the entire Braunschweig region.”

Therefore, they want to continue to incorporate the anthem in a suitable time slot – without neglecting familiar and beloved traditions. “You’ll Never Walk Alone” is left behind here. Although the song has a great message, the club is looking in vain for a “clear connection” to unity in the song.

In the future, fans won’t have to completely do without the classic, which has been discarded for the time being. “In the future, YNWA will be played in addition to the anthem when it is important to honor deceased Eintracht personalities and in general commemoration of the deceased on the occasion of the last home game at the end of the year,” said the BTSV.

Even when the teams step onto the pitch, the club remembers a familiar tradition. Then in the future “Rofo’s Theme” will be heard again over the loudspeakers of the Eintracht Stadium.
