Another Kenyan athlete caught on doping

Kenyan Lilian Kasait Rengeruk has been banned for ten months for a doping violation. Traces of the banned product letrozole were found in January in the 25-year-old athlete. This is an agent that inhibits the breakdown of anabolic steroids and testosterone and therefore has a performance-enhancing effect. The sentence was handed down by the Athletics Integrity Unit, which has found seven Kenyan athletes guilty of doping since July.

Kasait finished twelfth last year in the Olympic final in the 5000 meters, which was won by the Dutch Sifan Hassan. After the many positive cases, the Kenyan Athletics Federation has already announced a series of measures “to dismantle the cartels and take the fight against doping to a higher level”.
