Herzog becomes Klinsmann’s assistant in South Korea

Jürgen Klinsmann is tackling his new challenge as coach of the South Korean national soccer team with an old friend.

The Austrian Andreas Herzog will be the former national coach’s assistant. Herzog confirmed this on Instagram. “I’m really looking forward to the exciting task and working with Jürgen Klinsmann again,” said Herzog at Sky Sport Austria. The 54-year-old will continue to work there as a TV expert.

Klinsmann and Herzog were once teammates at Bayern Munich. They also worked together as coaches from 2011 to 2016: Klinsmann was coach of the US national team at the time, and Herzog was his assistant coach.

At the end of February, the South Korean association KFA announced that Klinsmann would take over the two-time Asian champion. His contract runs until after the 2026 World Cup in the USA, Canada and Mexico.
