“I will wait for Madrid until the last day.” This is what Carlo Ancelotti said today and it is clear that the statement will have thrown the Brazilian national team into a state of evident agitation. In Rio de Janeiro they await Carlo with open arms, convinced that he will be the next coach of the Seleção. Or at least that’s what Ednaldo Rodrigues, president of the Cbf, thinks. He has long considered the negotiation with Ancelotti to be positively closed. And it’s not like that. Carlo has indeed given his availability to the Brazilians, but on one condition: the non-renewal of the contract that binds him to Madrid until June 30th. And at Casa Blanca they are seriously thinking of offering a new deal to the Italian coach. From 1 January 2024, Carlo will be free to negotiate with a new employer, Madrid knows this and faced with the insistence of Brazil, shaken by the three defeats of the national team, a negative record in the World Cup qualifiers, in the interim hands of Fernando Diniz, they thought about moving.

the wait

According to Madrid radio Onda Cero, Florentino Perez has prepared a renewal offer for Ancelotti, who is ready to listen to it, and very inclined to accept it. This is a feeling that today, presenting tomorrow’s La Liga match in Cadiz, Carlo expressed very clearly by pronouncing the words with which we opened the piece. The question: “Would you wait for Madrid until the last day?”. Answer: “Claro que si”. He had responded to the two previous questions on the topic by saying that he did not want to talk about his future and that he was proud of the Seleção’s interest. “We will know something soon” added Carlo. Here you are. The ball is clearly in Casa Blanca’s court, and it seems that Florentino Perez intends to continue the fruitful coexistence with Ancelotti, with all due respect to Xabi Alonso, the number one candidate for the possible replacement of the Emilian coach. We’ll see how they react in Rio de Janeiro, while Carlo remains very calm: being able to choose between Real Madrid and Brazil is not for everyone.
