A predictable but fun romantic comedy: the review

Action, misunderstandings and breathtaking tropical landscapes. These are the main ingredients of An explosive weddingcomedy directed by Jason Moore who reverses the clichés of the rom-com: the stereotype of the dream wedding is in fact transformed into a real disaster. A fun basic insight that, at least in the first part, it offers frenetic moments, a good rhythm and several hilarious situations. Moore’s direction is quick and concise and the photography makes the most of the exotic settingwith a nice postcard touch.

The screenplay by An explosive wedding it alternates successful moments with weaker dialogues while the mix of romance and action is sometimes unbalanced and inconsistent. Although does not shine for originality, it works, especially when it doesn’t take itself too seriously, thanks to the pleasant underlying lightness and the spot-on cast. Suitable for those looking for an hour and a half of escape, rhythm and smiles.

The film’s strong point is an amalgamated and fit caststarting from Jennifer Lopez which, this time too, she proves herself to be brilliant, physical, capable of laughing at herself and guiding the film with pace and charisma. They come together in his character irony and vulnerability and the misadventures end up turning into a test of emotional strength.

The latest film shot by the pop star is Kiss of the Spider Woman directed by Bill Condon and released in the United States on October 10th. Taken from famous novel by Manuel Puig – already adapted to cinema in 1985 and with Sonia Braga in the role of Lopez, the film mixes drama, music and queer themes. J Lo was praised by American critics for his stage presence and courage in reinventing himself in a complex role. Unfortunately, the Italian release date is still unknown.
