The ecologists, who are participating in the municipality’s plan, use a bat detector to trace the bats with which the ultrasonic bats sound becomes visible on a screen. The researchers sometimes stay in front of homes, view facades with binoculars or heat cameras and use flashlights.

AT5 set off with ecologist Koen Wonders. He regularly goes out around the evening twilight to spot the bats. A very rare species lives in Noord, the multi -bat. “There are fewer multi -bats worldwide than there are elephants,” says Wonders. “You have to protect such a rare species as a city.”

The research in Noord, Southeast and Weest runs until the end of the summer.
