Nadiem Amiri returns to the German national team after more than four years – this caused great emotions for him. The Mainz midfielder spoke of a special moment.

After more than four years, Nadiem Amiri made the leap into the German national team again – and the return caused great emotions for him. “After I was called by national coach Julian Nagelsmann on Tuesday, my tears came to me,” the midfielder is quoted on the website of his club Mainz 05.

His last of five international matches so far from Amiri in November 2020 under Joachim Löw. Amiri said about his nomination for the National League quarter-final games against Italy: “It was my dream for the national team for so long. I worked hard to improve every day.”

Julian Nagelsmann expressly praised the 27-year-old: “Nadiem plays an outstanding season. He is a very good example of taking a step back to bring the career forward.” In addition, the national coach Amiri described as a “cool guy” who “brings energy in”.

The first leg against Italy will take place on March 20 in Milan, three days later the second leg follows in Dortmund. The winner qualifies for the Final Four-a possible home tournament for the DFB team.
