Alpine skiing | DSV duo missed the top ten in the Super-G

Germany’s best speed driver Kira Weidle set the second-best Super-G result of her career in Lake Louise.

The 26-year-old from Starnberg finished twelfth when Swiss Olympic champion Corinne Suter won. Second was Cornelia Hütter from Austria (+0.02 seconds) followed by Norway’s Ragnhild Mowinckel (+0.16).

“That was a reasonably forgiving conclusion today,” said Weidle, who was extremely dissatisfied with eleventh place in the downhill. “You can see that I did a good job over the summer and that things are going in the right direction.” Seventh place remains the best Super-G result so far for the native of Stuttgart.

Suter raced to her third consecutive podium finish in the Rocky Mountains, having finished second and third in the previous spurt rides. Emma Aicher was the second German starter to collect valuable points in her first Super-G World Cup and finished 21st.

The Super-G might have been the last race in Lake Louise. The organizers have been struggling with financial difficulties for a long time. The chances of returning in the future are slim, said FIS race director Markus Waldner.
