The day after her third World Cup victory, Emma Aicher escaped shock after falling in the Super-G in St. Moritz.
“I didn’t do the jumping movement cleverly and sat in the back, just stupid, that pisses me off a bit,” said the 22-year-old on ARD and emphasized: “I knew straight away that I wasn’t missing anything.” Only the airbag, which opened properly, took away some of her breathing space.
“Luckily nothing happened to her,” said teammate Kira Weidle-Winkelmann, who finished eleventh (+0.95 seconds) in New Zealand’s Alice Robinson’s first Super-G victory.
After a careless mistake, Aicher fell on a wave after just a few seconds of driving. Weidle-Winkelmann also had problems: “I completely missed a wave, the skiing was actually good, but it just has to fit from bottom to top.”
The “Speed Queens” Sofia Goggia (Italy/+0.19 seconds) and Lindsey Vonn (USA/+0.27) took third and fourth place; in addition to Robinson, they also had to admit defeat to second-placed Romane Miradoli from France (+0.08).
In the downhill on Saturday, Vonn and Goggia took second and third place behind Aicher.
Mikaela Shiffrin (USA), who was competing in a Super-G for the first time since her serious fall a year ago, was eliminated shortly before the finish.
