After months of rehab, Alphonso Davies is nearing his comeback. The full-back is now taking part in team training again for the first time.
Alphonso Davies completed part of the team training at FC Bayern for the first time. After tearing the cruciate ligament in his right knee, which he suffered while wearing the Canadian national team jersey in March, the 25-year-old was back on the pitch with his teammates on Monday.
The left-back’s return was visibly well received by the team – coach Vincent Kompany and several teammates warmly welcomed Davies and hugged him, including Jamal Musiala and Hiroki Itō. As can be seen in a video on platform
Kompany had already cautiously indicated in October that a deployment would be possible “perhaps as early as December” – assuming the rehab goes optimally. Initially, a comeback was planned for January. Sports director Max Eberl had also recently appeared optimistic. Before the start of the international break he said: “Things are looking good for him too.” At the same time, he emphasized that the player had to be “slowed down a little bit so that it doesn’t get too early.”
