Alphaville have announced measures against the Alternative for Germany (AfD). The band made the statement in a statement published on their Instagram account about Marian Gold clearly: “As we have just learned, supporters of the right-wing extremist AfD party are using our song ‘Forever Young’ in their media to advertise this fascist organization. Alphaville will do everything in its power to counteract this misuse. The music of Alphaville and the band are in no way compatible with the political ideas of this party and its supporters.”
Alphaville gained worldwide fame in the 1980s with songs like “Forever Young”, “Sounds Like A Melody” and “Big in Japan”. Now “Forever Young” has apparently become the focus of the AfD, who, according to the band, are using it for party purposes.

In Germany and the USA there are many artists who prohibit the use of their titles for election campaign events. Herbert Grönemeyer and Soho Bani, for example, spoke out against the use of the 2006 World Cup anthem “Time for something to turn around” at events organized by the CDU, the Junge Union and the Greens.
During the US presidential election campaign, stars such as ABBA, Neil Young, Jack White, Beyoncé Knowles and Céline Dion took action against the use of their songs, sometimes with threats of legal action.
