Despite concerns in the Union, Minister of Culture Wolfram Weimer adheres to his plans for a transfer to proceeds from large US digital companies.
Heer said that he was confident that he can enforce the so-called platform soli. He announced a more comprehensive concept of restricting the power of the large internet platforms.
“In autumn, I will present the public’s proposals to include tax law, antitrust law and regulatory questions,” said the non -party politician. “I started tax law and started an initiative for a platform soli. We could achieve billions that strengthen our media system so that it is no longer deformed by American and Chinese monopolists.”
Economic Minister Katherina Reiche (CDU) and Union faction leader Jens Spahn (CDU) had expressed reservations against the “platform soli”. Among other things, it is feared that measures at the expense of the US companies could tighten the customs dispute with Washington.
Weimer said: “I was in all factions of the middle – Union, SPD, Greens – and gained a clear opinion for digital tax in the Bundestag.” And further: “We have an order from the coalition agreement, now tackle it, and I am confident that we can be successful.”
The digital tax would hit large internet companies such as Google and Meta Platforms. The model is Austria. Large online platforms have been obliged there since 2020 to pay five percent of the advertising marketing income. Weimer has given a size of ten percent for Germany. Income is expected in billions of bills.
In the trade in NASDAQ, the Google mother Alphabet’s share temporarily loses $ 0.97 percent, while meta shares occasionally lower $ 781.21.
