The award ceremony held at BAU South Campus Conference Hall was attended by BAU Board of Trustees Chairman Enver Yücel, Bahçeşehir College Chief Executive Officer Hüseyin Yücel, Bahçeşehir College Sports Club President Begüm Yücel, BAU Board of Trustees Members Ömer Yücel, Saygın Şenel, BAU Rector Prof. Dr. Esra Hatipoğlu, academicians and students attended.
The national basketball player, who was selected as an All Star twice, was welcomed by BAU students and youth players of Bahçeşehir College Basketball Team at the ceremony.
The 23-year-old player, who plays for the Houston Rockets in the NBA, is supported by Bahçeşehir University, which guides education and development every year; He was deemed worthy of the “Those Who Add Value to Türkiye Award”, which is given to a person selected among the names that contribute to the country’s economy, sports, artistic heritage, promotion and recognition.
In his speech at the ceremony, Bahçeşehir College Chief Executive Officer Hüseyin Yücel said, “Today, we are together to honor a value that proudly represents our country on the world’s biggest basketball stage. Alperen Şengün has become one of the inspiring names of Turkish sports with his hard work, character and achievements despite his young age. His performance in the NBA is not only an individual success story; it is also a strong indicator of the level Turkish basketball has reached. For us, Bahçeşehir is our home and Beşiktaş is our love. After the speech, Alperen Şengün received his award from Bahçeşehir College Sports Club President Begüm Yücel.
Rector Prof. Dr. While Esra Hatipoğlu gave flowers to the national player, Hüseyin Yücel presented a signed Beşiktaş jersey to the star-crescent athlete at the end of the ceremony.
In his speech at the ceremony, Alperen Şengün said, “My only goal is to be a good example for the young people in my country. It is one of my biggest dreams to see more young people in the NBA. It is my greatest pride and duty to be the best example and represent my country there in the best possible way.” he said.
After the ceremony, the national basketball player took a souvenir photo with the participants and signed a jersey.
