The accessibility of track 2 of the Emmen Zuid train station should be better for cars. The disabled in particular benefit from this. The 50Plus bucket states that. She held a signature campaign at the station on King’s Day and that yielded 1675 scribbles in one fell swoop.
Emmen Zuid station was built in 2011 along the Emmen-Zwolle line. If you want to train towards the Hanseatic city of Overijssel, you can quickly step on platform 1. Anyone from Zwolle at the opposite Perron 2, must first have a staircase or slope, under the rail tunnel and then another staircase up to the station square with parking spaces.
That situation sometimes causes dangerous situations, according to party leader Marinus Kasteleijn. “Cars are forced to put on the roadway in the railway tunnel for passengers to get in or out. That is extremely dangerous.” Those who have difficulty walking do not have it easy from platform 2. They have to go through the entire tunnel to reach Stationsplein, a tiring and decent detour. “It is pretty steep, so that is particularly heavy for walker or wheelchair.”
Kasteleijn has already argued for a turn to platform 2, but found no hearing. He now has a different idea: “Further on is a roundabout where a cycle path goes to rail 2. Make a bicycle street from where cars are guests, just like in the Kerkhoflaan in the center. And lay a kiss and ride zone at Perron 2. Then you are there too.”
Kasteleijn will also raise the issue with the other groups in Emmen. “We picked up nearly 1700 signatures in a day. We were really impressed by that number. People just think something should happen.”
