A big thank you: Alberto Stegeman has been dressing up as the craziest characters for years to make our country a bit safer, but is now being rewarded with dredging figures. The new season of Undercover in the Netherlands got off to an exceptionally bad start last night: only 232 thousand people (7 percent) watched the broadcast on SBS 6.

dress up drum

It is inevitable that Alberto immediately dived into his costume again this morning after the latest viewing figures came out: he walks through the house whispering all day with a goat wig. After all, such viewing figures are annoying for a repeat, but to cry for a new episode that has cost blood, sweat and tears.

Alberto’s low ratings will not surprise anyone: SBS 6 is experiencing one of its worst summers ever. The channel makes programming blunder after programming blunder and that has an effect on the viewing figures. For example, Undercover is now broadcast in the Netherlands after the huge Winston Gerschtanowitz flop The Best Answer.

‘Far from ideal’

Tina Nijkamp, former channel boss of SBS 6, thinks it is unwise of her successors at the channel. “What a great pity for Alberto. The combination with Winston’s flopped quiz is therefore far from ideal. Firstly, in terms of viewing figures: Winston had a record low with 175,000 viewers, and secondly: also in terms of feeling,” she writes.

A quiz and an injustice program do not fit together, according to Tina. “Before John de Mol took over SBS 6, Undercover was always preceded by Road Abusers. John loves quizzes but they never really score on SBS 6. Isn’t it time to order Road Abusers again?”

sad score

So the big loser of the TV night was Winston with his quiz, which was watched by 175,000 people (5 percent). “Extremely sad score. But given the local TV appearance of the quiz, it is deservedly unwatched,” says Tina.

The prime-time winners were NPO 1’s Floortje Naar The End Of The World (747 thousand), NPO 3’s Reizen Waes (691 thousand), RTL 4’s Een tegen 50 (578 thousand), NPO 1’s European Championships Munich (547 thousand) and RTL. 4’s Beat the Champions (544 thousand).

Zomergasten amounted to 365 thousand viewers.

Viewing figures

Programs that did not make the top 15 include Shownieuws (335 thousand), vtwonen (195 thousand) and Help my husband is handyman (183 thousand).
