The TV season has only just begun, but the chance is very high that RTL Tonight will end up as the greatest flop of the television year. Albert Verlinde would be one of the most important signs, there are two to three times a week, but he himself also had it: the shownerer was recently absent for no less than a week and a half.

“Do your thing”

A week and a half no Albert and that while he is the only media and showbiz expert in the program. That he is pretty much the only one who does light subjects, says a lot: RTL Tonight is also mainly very dry, with experts who actually have relatively little authority, such as Astrid Holleeder, who is ultimately also meat nor fish.

TV authority Tina Nijkamp is very critical about the format, but Albert does not want to comment too much on it, although he has already taken up destructive about RTL Tonight. “The great thing is: I used to say what I thought of something. But in the meantime I have learned: Tina must above all say her thing,” he says in the Weekend.

No discussion

Albert does not want to respond to statements that Tina has made. For example, she called him naive. “I no longer enter into a discussion with her or anyone else, if I feel a different responsibility. What does the audience have when television connoisseurs go rolling out of the street with each other?”

He does have an opinion about Gordon, who would be a guest in RTL Tonight, but canceled because he finds the program too bad. “I had gone. They are all colleagues of yours. And you said yes, then you have to sit there too. But it’s his choice.”

Image damage

Does Albert fear that the flopping of RTL Tonight also gives him image damage? “I am seriously not concerned with that. Because I am getting older. I realize more and more: I can’t do more than my best.”

Then the repetitive question: if the program is removed from the tube, do we just see Albert back to today inside? “I’m not going to say anything about that, because that affects one or the other program.”
