Albert Heijn, Jumbo and Spar recall chocolate biscuits due to possible presence of metal | Domestic

In consultation with the federal food agency FAVV, Albert Heijn and Jumbo are withdrawing various types of chocolate biscuits from sale and recalling them from consumers. The store chain SPAR is also recalling cookies. This is because the cookies contain not only pieces of chocolate, but possibly also pieces of metal, which can be bad for your health.

At Albert Heijn, this concerns the following house brand products: AH Choc Chip Lemon, AH Choc Chip Double Choc and AH Choc Chip Red Velvet, each with a minimum expiration date of 05/09/2024. The products were on the shelves from 07/12/23 to 15/02/24.

At Jumbo, this concerns the products Jumbo Chocolate Cookies, with best before date 05/09/24 and EAN 8718452181339, and Jumbo Double Chocolate Cookies, with best before date 13/09/24 and EAN 8718452671465.

SPAR is recalling its own brand cookies in triple chocolate flavour.

Biscuit manufacturer Merba from Oosterhout in Brabant reports that the metal chips are too small to be detected by detectors on the production lines. “The metal particles found have different sizes, are mainly thin and long, posing a potential risk to human health if consumed,” the company said.

The supermarket chains ask their customers not to consume the products and to return them to the store. They will be appropriately compensated.
