Defending champion Alba Berlin has again reached the top four in the Basketball Bundesliga (BBL) cup and completed the semi-finals. Exactly one week after the first BBL defeat of the season at BG Göttingen, the champions secured an unchallenged victory of 99:71 (51:46) in the quarter-finals in a quick reunion with the Lower Saxony.
Vice-champions FC Bayern and EWE Baskets Oldenburg had previously made it into the last four on Sunday. The Munich team won 80:63 (47:30) against medi Bayreuth, Oldenburg beat the MLP Academics Heidelberg 85:83 (39:52) after catching up. The MHP giants Ludwigsburg advanced on Saturday with a 95:69 (54:39) at the Hakro Merlins Crailsheim. In the semifinals, Berlin meets Bayern in the top game, Ludwigsburg has to deal with Oldenburg. That was the result of the draw after the game in Göttingen.
Berlin, around their best thrower Malte Delow (18 points), initially struggled again after the previous Sunday’s defeat in Göttingen, but made things clear in the third quarter (31:16). Bayern were able to rely particularly on national player and European Championship bronze medalist Andreas Obst (16 points). Top scorer at the former champion and cup winner Oldenburg was Dewayne Russell with 28 points.
The Top Four takes place on 18./19. February 2023. The venue has not yet been determined.
