Alan Lopes’ mother stabbed to death: “My heart is torn, but I forgive you”

During the hearing surrounding the murder of Alan Lopes, the mother of the 21-year-old Brazilian used her right to speak. In it, she informed Begoleã F., the person responsible for stabbing her son to death, that although ‘her heart is torn, there is no room for hatred’. She added: “I have forgiven you.”

During the substantive hearing in court, mother Antonia Lima spoke. “Begoleã. Not only did you take the life of my son Alan, but you also killed my daughter-in-law, grandchildren and an entire generation.”

After clear words about what Begoleã F. did to her family, Lima announced that she forgave him for the murder. “Although my heart is torn, there is no room for hatred. For I have learned that the way to peace is forgiveness. That is why I have forgiven you. I hope my forgiveness can bring a little peace and tranquility to your heart.”

No prison sentence, but TBS required

The Public Prosecution Service demanded at the end of the hearing no prison sentence for Begoleã F., TBS with compulsory treatment. According to F., it was ‘him or me’ in a fight to the death in the house on Vegasstraat in Noord. According to the expert, the suspect had delusions and was unreasonable.

Begoleã F. himself stated that he thought his friend was a cannibal because of things he had said. The experts believe that F. had therefore developed a paranoid delusion about the Lopes and that he thought that Lopes wanted to kill him and then eat him. “Out of fear, he took a knife and killed him with 99 stab wounds,” said Justine Asbroek of the Public Prosecution Service.

The court will rule on the case in two weeks.
