Ajax Women seizes power again for the first time since 2018

Ajax Women has won the national title in the women’s premier league. After a walk-over visit to PEC Zwolle (1-6), the first national title since 2018 is a fact. This makes the team from Amsterdam national champions for the third time in history. VV Alkmaar has won the very last game ever: 1-0 against Fortuna Sittard.

In fact, the first big step towards the national title was already taken last week. In a direct duel with challenger FC Twente, Ajax Women won 1-0, as a result of which the team from Amsterdam took over the lead in the competition. A victory over PEC Zwolle would complete the party.

The intentions of Ajax Women soon became clear, as Romée Leuchter gave her team the lead after just nine minutes. Quinty Sabajo doubled the score just before half-time and Leuchter made it 3-0 with her second goal.

With that, the champagne could already be uncorked at halftime. After the break, Tiny Hoekstra was also accurate twice for Ajax Women. Ashleigh Weerden put an end to all uncertainty by taking the sixth goal. Bo van Egmond put PEC Zwolle on the scoreboard, but that did little to detract from the Amsterdam revelry.

VV Alkmaar

The very last game ever for VV Alkmaar also resulted in a small party. In the closing minutes, Camie Mol tapped coach Mark de Vries’ team to victory. This means that VV Alkmaar is ninth in the women’s Eredivisie.
