Ajax without Gorter and sick Mikautadze to Brighton

Interim coach Hedwiges Maduro of Ajax has traveled to Brighton in England with 22 players for next Thursday’s confrontation with Brighton & Hove Albion in the Europa League. Georgian attacker Georges Mikautadze is ill and stayed behind in Amsterdam. Goalkeeper Jay Gorter and defender Devyne Rensch are injured and cannot be used.

Gorter was injured on Sunday in the match against FC Utrecht. He was replaced by Diant Ramaj. The German is in the selection for that reason. Silvano Vos was suspended for the previous European match, but he is back for the away match against Brighton.

Maduro is on the bench for the first time as the main responsible at Ajax against Brighton. He has been put forward to temporarily replace Maurice Steijn. The coach had to resign on Monday, four months after his appointment. It was the day after the defeat at FC Utrecht. Ajax therefore dropped to seventeenth place in the Eredivisie.

Ajax opened the group stage of the Europa League with a 3-3 draw against Olympique Marseille. The second group match also remained without a winner, the score was 1-1 against AEK Athens. The Amsterdam club is third with two points.
