During the competition last December 8at the end of the first half, café Het Spoortje opposite was attacked by Ajax fans. Windows were smashed and several people involved were slightly injured. No one had to be taken to the hospital, three people were arrested.

Order

That is why Mayor Schouten has now decided that away fans are not welcome in Alkmaar for the upcoming match. Officers from all over the province were called to the café during the incident to maintain order in the city. “We can therefore only conclude that it is not only the course of events in the stadium that determines the deployment of the police,” said Schouten.

By now preventing possible riots from Ajax supporters in the city, officers can be deployed in other places.

Objection

The mayor is said to have announced that Ajax responded to her decision ‘with objections’. “It is unfortunate that bad behavior by some of the supporters leads to such a drastic measure,” said Schouten.

In her decision she also mentions the NATO summit, which will be held in The Hague in June next year. Thousands of police officers are deployed to ensure the security of the summit. The police asked to hold as few events as possible in the coming months. “The police must plan and coordinate their resources carefully,” the mayor said.
