Back at the club since 2012
Former world-class goalkeeper and current managing director Edwin van der Sar has extended his expiring contract with Dutch champions Ajax Amsterdam. The 51-year-old is now tied to the club until 2025, as Ajax announced on Friday. Van der Sar has been in this position since 2015, having previously been the sports director and from 2012 marketing director. He ended his career at Manchester United in 2011.
On Ajax’s goals for the coming years, van der Sar said: “I’ve experienced a lot at Ajax in the last ten years. During these years the club has grown in many areas. The international prestige has increased enormously, mainly thanks to the performances of our first team. There is a fantastic organization behind this that makes this possible. Our goal is to become a structural part of the international elite.”
De Ligt, Ibrahimovic, Martínez & Co.: Most expensive Ajax sales
If the format in the European Cup, especially the Champions League, changes in 2024, he wants to take part in the “premier class” with Ajax every year: “This journey is not over yet and I would like to continue to make a contribution. I work daily with enthusiastic colleagues who also want to raise the bar. Not only in the first team, but also in the office, in the youth academy and with the Ajax women. The stadium is always packed and sales of the various Ajax kits are unprecedented among young and old at home and abroad. We feel a lot of support from our fans at home and away. Enough reasons to continue to dedicate myself body and soul to the club in the years to come.”
