Ajax Amsterdam unveil Mislintat as new Technical Director

As technical director

A few months after his separation from VfB Stuttgart, Sven Mislintat has accepted a new challenge. The 50-year-old will become the new technical director at Ajax Amsterdam with immediate effect. The Dutch record champions officially announced this on Tuesday. Mislintat has been given a contract at Ajax until June 2026. The final successor to Marc Overmars, who left early last year after cross-border behaviour, is thus settled.

According to reports, several talks have been held with Liverpool sporting director Julian Ward, who is leaving the Reds at the end of the season. The 41-year-old is said to have informed managing director Edwin van der Sar that he was not available. Ex-attacker Klaas-Jan Huntelaar remains in management and will report to Mislintat in the future.

“It’s good for Ajax that we were able to fill this important position with an internationally experienced football director who can start quickly,” said van der Sar. There was a careful selection process before the position was filled. With Mislintat comes someone “who stands for offensive and attractive football, is internationally networked and has both scouting and the development and development of their own youth in mind.” The former talent scout from Arsenal and Borussia Dortmund has “a way of working that this time fits. I am convinced that he will make an important contribution to new successes for Ajax.”

Mislintat said: “Since Edwin called me in February to ask if I was interested in becoming director of football I have stopped speaking to other parties. I was born and raised in Dortmund and grew up in the shadow of big traditional clubs. Ever since I was young I have seen Ajax as one of the most legendary football clubs in the world.”
