Airplane crashes in Bruges, “pilot hangs in the air with parachute”

In Sint-Andries near Bruges, a sports plane crashed near a residential area on Friday afternoon. This is confirmed by the Bruges police. It is still unclear whether it is a crash or a hard emergency landing. The pilot suffered minor injuries.

“Pilot in ejection seat”

The circumstances are currently unclear. The pilot was able to get out of the aircraft before landing using a parachute. There were no other people involved.

“Just during a refueling I heard two pops,” says an eyewitness. “When I looked into the sky I saw ‘the pilot’ with his ejection seat and parachute and also a sports plane with parachute.”

According to eyewitnesses, both the pilot and the plane were suspended from a parachute during the descent. The Torhoutsesteenweg, between Zevenbergenlaan and the roundabout is partially blocked.
