Air traffic in the Middle East has been severely disrupted by the American and Israeli attacks on Iran and the Iranian retaliatory attacks. Israel, the United Arab Emirates and Qatar have closed their airspace to commercial aviation, according to international news agencies. The airspace in southern Syria has also been closed.
A look at the FlightRadar24 site shows that the airspace above Iran, Iraq, Israel, Lebanon, Jordan, Syria, Kuwait, the Gulf States and parts of Saudi Arabia is now largely unused. The European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) called on airlines to avoid the area.
Dubai International Airport is the busiest international airport in the world and a major transfer point for flights between Europe and Asia. This airport is now out of service indefinitely, as is Qatar’s major Doha airport. A KLM aircraft has been stranded in Dubaiaccording to news agency ANP and regional broadcaster NH Nieuws. Aircraft from other companies en route to Dubai had to turn around. European airlines such as Air France-KLM, Lufthansa and British Airways have canceled flights to Tel Aviv and Beirut.
