It will take a while, but in June The Hague is dominated by the NATO summit. Roads are locked, public transport is arranged differently and events are canceled. In particular, Hagenaars notice the consequences, but in Zoetermeer we also have to deal with it. What is the NATO summit and what do you notice as a Zoetermeerder?

Zoetermeer events where little or no police deployment is needed will continue. Large -scale events cannot continue or the organization must come up with a new date.

Zoetermeer agents to The Hague

Police officers come to The Hague from all over the country, so also from Zoetermeer. Those two days 27,000 employees work at a safe top. The result is that agents cannot take free and fewer agents are available for events.

Zoetermeer events moved and canceled

But also before and after the top, extra police in The Hague are needed. That is why the Zoetermeerse mayor Michel Bezuijen does not think it is a good idea to allow larger events in Zoetermeer in May and June. “There are too few agents available to maintain order”.

Eight Zoetermeer events are not ahead of the NATO summit: Love & Peace (31 May and 28 June), Zoetermeer Festival (6 June), Stunt Movie Production (June 14), Festival City (June 20), Sweetlake Festival (June 21), Music on the Move (June 21) and January 22). The Liberation Festival on Monday 5 May will take place, just like smaller events. The culinary summer festival (formerly Culinair Zoetermeer) has to move to the month of July.

Public transport during the NATO summit

Do you use the public transport from Zoetermeer to or in The Hague during that period? Know then that the buses and trams of HTM are driving their normal timetable. The Municipality of The Hague sets the roads around the World Forum, such as the Johan de Wittlaan, Stadhouderslaan and the Eisenhowerlaan with gates and that area is not accessible. The tram track of the Stadhouderslaan remains available.

About the NATO-TOP 2025 in The Hague

Some explanation: the Netherlands is host country for the NATO summit in 2025. On June 24 and 25, state heads and government leaders of the 32 NATO member states talk about worldwide safety, among other things. Ministers, journalists and delegation members are also present. A total of 8,500 people come to the World Forum. That will be a busy lot in The Hague!
