On October 29, 2024, GGZ employees went with the police to the home of a 52-year-old man in Alkmaar. They wanted to hand him a care authorization: a decision of the judge that someone should receive care.
Mash with a knife
However, the man did not open. When agents forced the door, they were immediately threatened with a knife. One agent got a swipe towards his head.
Not much later, dog conductors arrived. During an attempt to keep the man, he again came up with a knife on the agents. One of them discovered a targeted shot, causing the man to be wounded.
Pepper spray, beanbags and a police dog
The situation remained tense. Negotiators, pepper spray and other means made no difference. Around half past three the police called in the Special Interventions (DSI) service. They too tried to eliminate him with beanbags (fired bags with lead balls to temporarily switch off someone), a power surge and a police dog, but without success.
The DSI agent then released one targeted shot on the man, but that also had no effect. When the man stabbed the police dog, after he had bitten him in his leg, and still waving the knife, he was shot again. After that, agents managed to get him under control.
