Even with Svetislav Pesic, FC Bayern Basketball remains unsuccessful in the EuroLeague. The Munich team suffered their ninth defeat in a row against Hapoel Tel Aviv.
That too Comeback from coach Svetislav Pesic did not bring the FC Bayern Munich basketball players a turnaround in the EuroLeague. The Munich team lost to the leaders Hapoel Tel Aviv in their own hall with 72:82 (32:44) and thus suffered their ninth defeat in a row in international competition. Soccer world champion Thomas Müller was also among the spectators.
“I had the feeling that Tel Aviv played with five players against zero at times. They have to feel our physical presence,” said Pesic after the game at MagentaSport: “Our job for the next games is to improve the defense. We only made three fouls in the last quarter – it doesn’t work that way. Fouls are an important part of the game.”
Result cosmetics in the final part
The 76-year-old Pesic showed great passion from the start, coached loudly on the sidelines and picked up a technical foul early on. But the successor to world champion coach Gordon Herbert had little cause for satisfaction: Bayern quickly fell behind 7-0 and were well behind at halftime. It was only in the final section that the team managed to make the result a little more friendly against the guests’ second formation.
“It was frustrating, but at least we fought in the end,” said Justus Hollatz at MagentaSport. The world and European champion said about the new coach: “He told us that we should play with courage, that we should play hard. He’s only been there for a day, he couldn’t do much. If we have a few days, we can definitely do more.”
Munich are stuck in the bottom of the table
Bayern’s best points collector was world and European champion Andreas Obst with 18 points. On the Hapoel Tel Aviv side, Elijah Bryant also scored 18 points.
With just five wins from 18 games, the Munich team remains stuck in the bottom of the EuroLeague table. The next chance for improvement comes on January 2nd, when Hapoel’s city rival Maccabi Tel Aviv plays in Munich.
