SC Paderborn has achieved promotion to the Bundesliga: players and coaches want to celebrate for several days.
Winning goal scorer Laurin Curda announced a sleepless night in the midst of the joy-drunk supporters on the pitch before the promotion heroes poured beer on their coach Ralf Kettemann.
“I still can’t believe it,” said Curda: “It’s crazy what’s going on here. You only know it from TV and suddenly you’re right in the middle of it. As a little boy, it’s a dream and it’s now coming true.” He “probably won’t sleep at all” until the official party at the town hall on Tuesday at 5 p.m.
The team will then head to Mallorca, where the celebrations will last for several days.
Enjoy the festive atmosphere
After the 2:1 (1:1, 1:1) after extra time in the relegation second leg against VfL Wolfsburg, thousands of supporters stormed the pitch in an orderly manner and turned the pitch into a party zone. “It’s one of the best things. It’s just pure joy, a nice feeling,” said equalizer Bilbija.
It was “simply unbelievable” and “unique,” enthused goalkeeper Dennis Seimen on Sat.1. The team “deserved” the third promotion in the club’s history and was “enjoying the celebratory atmosphere”.
Coach Kettemann needs some rest first
Meanwhile, his coach needed some rest and disappeared into the dressing room for a few minutes shortly after the final whistle. When we returned to the pitch, the obligatory beer shower followed.
“It’s hard to describe. I needed some rest for a moment. It was very intense and tough,” said Kettemann on Sky: “It was surreal. I had to give myself a moment to breathe deeply.”
Historic evening in Paderborn
Now it’s time to celebrate before planning for the Bundesliga begins. “The club has already been promoted twice, but it hasn’t stayed there yet,” emphasized the coach: “We have to make smart decisions.”
The key to promotion was that the SCP was “one team,” explained club veteran Sven Michel: “We are a huge team, everyone stands up for everyone else.” It will only be understood in many years what we have achieved.
