After ten years: Jeremy Scott leaves Moschino

Jeremy Scott and Moschino are going their separate ways.

After nearly ten years as creative director, Scott is leaving the Italian fashion house, Moschino announced on Monday. The American took over the creative direction in October 2013 from Rossella Jardini, who was the first designer to hold creative direction after the death of Franco Moschino in 1994.

“I’m fortunate to have had the opportunity to work with the creative force of Jeremy Scott,” said Massimo Ferretti, chairman of Moschino’s parent Aeffe. “I want to thank him for his 10-year commitment to the House of Franco Moschino legacy and for creating a distinctive and joyful vision that will forever be a part of Moschino history.”

Scott: “I’m proud of the legacy I’m leaving behind.”

Scott showed off his first collection for Moschino during the FW14 presentations at Milan Fashion Week. He is known for his bold colors and playful collections that sparked debate on issues such as consumerism.

It was not uncommon for him to disguise models as everyday objects such as hot dogs, swimming rings or wall clocks. He also used pop culture motifs – from child heroes like Super Mario and Mickey Mouse to the fast food chain McDonalds or the beer brand Budweiser – and was inspired by the Barbie long before the pink trend. Scott even developed a custom capsule for the doll.

“The past ten years at Moschino have been a wonderful celebration of creativity and imagination,” summarizes Scott. “I’m proud of the legacy I’m leaving behind.”

It is not yet known who will take over this legacy at Moschino.
