Jane’s Addiction is back in the studio, but without a founding member and front man Perry Farrell.
During the last week, Dave Navarro, Eric Avery and Stephen Perkin’s pictures posted pictures on social media that show the band Jane’s Addiction in the studio. None of the pictures can be seen front man Perry Farrell. This suggests that a farrell-free reunion is being planned after the tour of the alternative rock band has been canceled last year.

The break with farrell
In September 2024, a show of the Reunion tour from Jane’s Addiction in Boston: Frontmann Perry Farrell attacked guitarist Dave Navarro during the concert, which caused a tangible conflict both and behind the stage. Crew members had to go between the musicians, the show was canceled and the other tour dates, as well as the planned album project, were canceled.
After the dispute, Farrell apologized to his fans and bandmates, especially Dave Navarro. “Unfortunately, my collapse has led to an unexcused behavior, and I take full responsibility for how I dealt with the situation,” said Farrell. His wife Etty then said that he took the time to “think and heal”. But there was no end to the situation.
Legal dispute escalated
In January 2025, the band members said that they would want to work on new music without Farrell. Navarro later confirmed that there was “no chance” that the band would ever perform again with Farrell. Since then it has been quiet for Jane’s Addiction, but in July the legal break followed. Navarro, Avery and Perkins sued their former colleagues to over ten million dollars compensation. The allegations are: bodily harm, emotional damage, neglect, breach of contract and violation of loyalty obligations. The band blames Farrell for the canceled concerts and the associated financial loss.
Farrell reacted with a counterclaim. In it, he accuses his former bandmate of deliberately bullied him up and drowned out on stage so that he no longer hears himself. He also accuses of assault, emotional stress and contract breaks. Since then, both sides have had a public exchange of blows. While Navarro, Avery and Perkins attribute uncontrollable behavior to their former front man, he speaks of targeted intrigue against him. According to the US media, a court date for January 2026 is scheduled to negotiate allegations and claims for damages.

The band is faced with a fundamental realignment. For the first time in their story, they seem to work on new material without the striking voice of the founding member Farrell. So far, it is open which direction the music will take and whether a new singer will be part of the project. However, it is clear that Navarro, Avery and Perkins will continue the band – this was shown by the musicians’ contributions on Instagram. Since it was founded in the mid -1980s, Jane’s Addiction has repeatedly been shaped by cast changes. Guitarist Dave Navarro and bassist Eric Avery got out of and back in several times, and the reunion phases rarely went without tensions. Despite all the fractures, the band has always found ways to reoré and continue musically. The current conflict about front man Perry Farrell is the most violent in band history. But musically this does not necessarily mean an end, although it is not entirely clear whether the new project will be published under a new name.
