After the embarrassing defeat in the World Cup qualifier against the Faroe Islands, the Czech Republic’s football association is drawing conclusions. National coach Ivan Hasek has to vacate his post, as CEO David Trunda announced in Prague. The 62-year-old Hasek had led the team since January 2024.
It is currently unclear who will be the successor. First, an interim solution should be found, it was said. The Faroe Islands – a group of islands in the North Atlantic with almost 55,000 inhabitants – surprisingly won 2-1 against favorites the Czech Republic on Sunday. The direct World Cup ticket in Group L is virtually impossible for the Czech Republic as runners-up.
