Actor Matthew Lillard has landed a major role in the new Superman movie, Man of Tomorrow. However, it is not yet known exactly what role the actor will play. Deadline does report that he has many scenes with actor David Corenswet, who plays the title role.
Lillard is known for the Scream film series, in which he played murderer Stu Macher, and the Scooby-Doo films, in which he played the role of Shaggy. The. also dived character actor over the years in many smaller films and TV series, often in memorable supporting roles.
Lillard recently received unexpected criticism from director Quentin Tarantino, who said in a podcast that he never appreciated the actor’s work. This led to an outpouring of support for Lillard, who, according to fans and people who have worked with him, is not only very talented, but also a nice person.
Fans fell over each other online to tell stories of encounters with Lillard at fan conventions, where he would regularly hang around after hours so he could meet anyone who wanted to talk to him.
James Gunn, the director of the Superman film in which Lillard is now cast, called him one of his favorite actors. Actor and director George Clooney said he “would be honored” to work with Lillard. Ryan Reynolds cast Lillard in a commercial for Mint Mobile, which he co-owns, in which the actor made a joke about the situation.
Lillard called Tarantino’s comment ‘painful’ but afterwards felt very supported by his colleagues, he later told People.
Gunn’s second Superman film picks up the story after the end of the 2025 film. The superhero must team up with his great nemesis Lex Luthor (Nicholas Hoult) to defeat an even greater threat, the super-intelligent villain Brainiac.
Superman: Man of Tomorrow will hit theaters in July 2027.
