After many changes and a lost name, Sugababes are now in their original line-up at Lowlands | Show

how are you doing now?Push the Button, Hole in the head and Round round. These are just three immense hits that the Sugababes scored at the beginning of this century. But after the departure of Mutya Buena, the girl group disappeared from view. In recent years they have been working on a comeback and they will be performing in August at Lowlands. What has happened to the hit sensation from the Zeroes in recent years?

Siobhán Donaghy, Mutya Buena and Keisha Buchanan are together again. It is the original line-up of the Sugababes, although many fans will also remember Heidi Range in particular. She replaced Donaghy in 2001 and thus experienced the group’s successful years. But the breakthrough single Overload was released with Donaghy, when the girls were just 14 years old. However, their debut album was not a resounding success and the singer struggled with depression and decided to leave the group.

Ultimately, their contract with the record company was terminated. A restart is made with Range and a new record company. In England they score with the song Freak like me immediately their first number 1 hit. After that is the gate of the dam and tracks follow like Round, round and Stronger. Anyone who grows up in the zeroes cannot actually ignore the Sugababes. The successes are great, but Range never gets a good bond with the two other singers.

Collaborations with George Michael and Amy Winehouse

In 2005 the commotion around the group started. First Buena is ill, then she says she chooses her family and finally she starts her own solo career. She releases an album, works with George Michael and Amy Winehouse, but she doesn’t come close to the successes of the Sugababes. Meanwhile, Amelle Berrabah and Jade Ewen join the girl group, but the hit machine of yesteryear is no more. When Buchanan also leaves the group in 2009, there is actually nothing left of the original Sugababes.

Two years later, Donaghy, Buena and Buchanan reunite and perform together. Not under the name of Sugababes, but as Mutya Keisha Siobhan (MKS). Berrabah, Ewen and Range have now stopped as the girl group. Behind the scenes there is therefore a battle over the group name. In 2013, Buena announced that he wanted to reclaim the Sugababes name.

That’s what really happens in the end. The original Sugababes will even release a new album in 2019. The now adult women are also going on tour again for the first time in twenty years. In August they can also be admired in the Netherlands, as one of the crowd pullers for Lowlands.
