Mattijs Bulcaen managed to recover DNA errors with Prime Editing technology in the cells of patients with mucoviscidosis, also known as cystic fibrosis. That is the most common hereditary and deadly condition in Europe. His technology also builds on the well-known CRISPR-CAS method and shows promising results in the lab.

“The euphoria I felt, I still remember lively,” says Bulcaen. “Spelling correction on chromosomes is no longer science fiction. The research feels like a marathon, but we have already overcome the first half.”
