Radprofi Nikias Arndt was seriously injured in a fall at the Brugge-de Panne, which is in the one-day race on Wednesday (26.03.2025), and fails for weeks. The 33-year-old suffered a stable vertebral fracture in the race, like his Team Bahrain-Victorious the next day. Arndt has been successfully operated on in Belgium.
In the coming days, Arndt will begin his rehab and work on his mobility. “We hope that he will sit on the bike again in the next two months”it said in that Team statement.
Harsh criticism of the organizers
The organizers of the race had been heavily criticized for the route. There had been four heavy falls over the last kilometers, in which the favorites Olav Kooij from the Netherlands and Belgium’s European champion Tim Merlier were also involved. Arndt’s teammate Phil Bauhaus had in the chaotic final in the victory of the Colombian Juan Sebastián Molano Fourth place.
