From today, Assen will receive Ukrainians in twenty sheltered homes at the Boshof rehabilitation center on Beilerstraat. Until recently, status holders lived here, but the houses have been empty for a while.
The sheltered homes are intended for Ukrainian families with children who are currently staying at other reception locations in Assen.
The municipality still talks to owner Espria van de Boshof about temporarily renting the entire complex for the reception of Ukrainian refugees. Because more places are needed in the future. The Boshof was a care home, but has been in use for years as a center for recovery and rehabilitation care, for patients from the hospital or geriatric institutions.
But first, according to the municipality, it is waiting for the final plans for the future that Espria has for this outdated care location. There is a new construction of a recovery center at the Wilhelmina Hospital Assen, intended for recovery and rehabilitation care, but that is not yet complete. Espria also participates. The Boshof can then be divested.
Assen currently catches around 800 Ukrainians. “But the need for reception places remains high due to the troubled situation in Ukraine,” said the municipality. A return to Ukraine also does not seem possible for the time being.
Nationally there are virtually no free reception places and it is expected that extra reception spots will be needed from next year. That is why the municipality of Assen is looking for new reception places for Ukrainian refugees.
They are currently at five locations, in the Univé office on Jan Bommerstraat, and in former office buildings on Lauwers, Eemland, Industrieweg and Oostersingel. In addition to conversations about the possible extension of these places, Assen is therefore in conversation with Espria about the complete Boshof location.
