The former Bundesliga coach Oliver Glasner has lost the starting point in the Europa League with Crystal Palace. Instead, the French club Olympique Lyon can start in the competition after a longer hanging game, as the UEFA announced. Palace, on the other hand, will have to go in the class deeper Conference League next season.

The reason for the decision of the UEFA are regulations about the possession of several clubs. According to the UEFA, both clubs have violated them, because until recently the American John Textor held large parts of both Lyon and Palace. According to UEFA rules, two or more clubs controlled by an institution are prohibited in the same competition.

However, since the financially difficult club from France had been compulsorily descended at the end of June, FA-Cup winner Palace originally got the place in the Europa League. Afterwards Lyon successfully went into the appeal and remains first -class – and now also in the Europa League. Appeal to the UEFA decision can be filed before the International Sports Court of Appeal.
