FC Bayern women come under the bikes in the Champions League at FC Barcelona and have to see how far they are still removed from Europe’s football crown. The 1: 7 against the triple royal class winner is like a lesson.
FC Bayern women had not introduced the start of the new season of the premier class. With 1: 7 (1: 4) the Munich women came under the wheels in the second of the past Champions League season. “I am very disappointed. It was not a good perfomance of us today, you have to be honest,” said coach José Barcala after the game.
The height of the defeat came almost a revenge for the disgrace that the Munich men had inflicted on the Catalans in the 2020 quarter -finals. At that time, FC Bayern won 8-2 against overwhelmed “Blaugrana”. This time the Spaniards played with the German double winner Katz and Mouse.
FC Barcelona at least one number too big for FC Bayern women
“We prepared the game so that we want to be dominant in some phases, we didn’t succeed,” said coach Barcala. In fact, the Munich women ran almost over the entire 90 minutes. Barcala’s team found no solutions to the High Pressing Barcas and made too many mistakes. “We did not have the necessary pace and timing against the ball. So we got under pressure and it was difficult for us to get control into play,” analyzed the Spaniard.
Bühl: “Defeat for our requirements too high”
The truth also included that Barcelona’s women were mercilessly that evening and resulted in the seven goals from twelve shots on the goal. This was also why Klara Bühl, who had achieved the only goal of the Munich 1: 3: “We deservedly lost, even if the defeat was too high for our claims.” And yet the evening showed how far FC Bayern from Europe’s football crown is still away.
Underwhelmed in the league, overwhelmed in Europe?
In the women’s Bundesliga, the Bayern women can only beat themselves. VfL Wolfsburg is only a small hurdle that they always mastered. In the past five years, the championship title has been in the Bavarian capital four times. At the moment, the defending champion in the league is only in second place, but is the same point and goal with VfL. The wolves are only due to the more scored goals.
Internationally, FC Bayern women have had a hard time for this. In the quarter -finals at the latest, the end station has always been in the last four seasons. At that time, however, a group phase was played. It falls away this year. As with the men, there is now also a leagueapse for women, the top opponents such as Juventus Turin, FC Arsenal or Paris Saint-Germain.
Bühl wants to “draw the right teachings out of it”
Nevertheless, FC Bayern women do not want to be disturbed by the clap in Barcelona: “Today it was very difficult for us. Everyone did their best, but we have to reflect on it and pull the right lessons from it,” said Klara Bühl. “We have to stay positive, continue our way and believe in us.”
Coach Barcala also demanded: “We have to learn from the game, stand together and go on.” In the Champions League, the next task is: home game on the campus against Juventus Turin. Afterwards, the Munich women receive Arsenal in the Allianz Arena. It should hardly be easier against the defending champion. For FC Bayern women, it is about not experiencing a lesson like against Barcelona.
