DOW JONES–Employment services provider Automatic Data Processing Inc (ADP) estimates that the U.S. private sector shed 11,250 jobs a week in the four weeks ended Oct. 25. The figure is the latest from a new weekly ADP data series that estimates month-over-month changes in private sector employment.

Last week, in a separate data series, ADP estimated that 42,000 new jobs were added in the private sector in October. This figure is based on a different methodology intended to more closely replicate the government’s monthly jobs report.

Economic statistics from alternative sources such as ADP have become more important during the government shutdown that has delayed the release of official figures.
